Building Social Relationships: A Systematic Approach to Teaching Social Interaction Skills to Children and Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum
Dr. Scott Bellini, Assistant Director Indiana Resource Center for Autism
{View Brochure}

In recent years there has been increased recognition that effective treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) must include giving children and adolescents the opportunity to develop social skills—as this is a primary area of deficit in those with ASD. Too often more able individuals with autism achieve high levels of academic skills but lack the social awareness and accompanying skills that enable them to develop friendships and job-ready social skills. This presentation will provide an overview of a social skill instructional model developed by Dr. Scott Bellini, integrating research on social–emotional functioning with effective strategies for teaching social skills to students with ASD. The model provides a systematic and comprehensive framework to guide parents and practitioners in the development and implementation of social skills programming.
