Get Involved in Autism Research!

As a parent of a child with autism, getting involved in research is a great way to learn
more about your child while contributing to the scientific under-standing of autism. At the Autism & Developmental Disorders Lab at Simon Fraser University, we are interested in the social development of children with autism. The goal of our research is to improve the social lives of children with autism.

We are currently looking for youth between the ages of 12-18 years of age and their parents to participate in a research study on social competence.  This study involves visiting our lab at SFU Burnaby by appointment.  We will schedule participants starting at the beginning of January 2007 at the convenience of the family.

Parents will be asked to complete reports on their child's skills and abilities, while children participate in  computer and video based tasks, to determine cognitive level, and ability to read emotion, social intentions, and understanding of social situations.  Participants are asked to come for one 3-4 hour session, including breaks, or two 1.5-2 hour sessions.  Parents will be provided with $30 cash and children will be provided with a movie pass, per visit as compensation.

If you and your child would be interested in participating, please contact us at or 604-268-6746. You can also learn more about us by visiting our website at
